  Beautiful lake side setting. Food is top notch, and pricey, but worth it. The cabins are cute, clean, and have there own kitchen. If you are staying for a day or two, get a lake side cabin. The stunning view is worth it. Don't buy the gas here. When we looked, the pump read $1.70/litre. Buy gas at Toad River or Watson Lake instead Watson Lake was $1.12/litre when passing through.

  I always stay at Northern Rockies Lodge whenever I make the long drive from Anchorage to Seattle & back. It’s a beautiful & traveler-friendly inn — with welcoming staff, fresh clean comfortable rooms & lovely home-cooked meals.

  Very impressive, picturesque lodge in the heart of the park. It has many activities available and the staff were very friendly. We had the chance to speak with one of the owner as he was warming up his snowmobile and he was very charming and humble. He thanked us for our visit. The room cost quite a bit more than we are accustomed to paying but it was clean, warm and had everything we needed. It also had a nice view of the lake and mountains and a neat little balcony. The meals were good and reasonably priced. Loved the schnitzel, Hungarian goulash and spaetzli! They were out of German beer during our visit which would have complimented the evening meal perfectly but they did have beer so it was still a good unique meal experience. And we must keep in mind this lodge is self-sustaining quite far from Calgary so overall this was a super experience. The coffee was awesome! - strong, flavorful and so very European. Best coffee on the ALCAN highway!

  When we went to pay, we were told we were being charged for two steaks and when I refused to pay for both and stated we would gladly pay for my food, we were told we were paying for both or the RCMP would be called. My wife asked to speak to a manager, who was even worse. He did not offer to compromise and screamed at us in front of a full restaurant. He told me again that if we didn't pay, he would be calling the RCMP. My wife told him to call them and we would wait in the lobby for them to arrive. Muncho Lake is over three hours from the nearest RCMP detachment and the manager wanted to waste precious resources over a $37 steak, which I could not believe. It took over an hour for him to get the courage to call the police. We saw him walking around with the phone in his hand, waiting to call but not actually calling. When he finally did call, the constable on the phone told my wife he did not want to drive out there for this, something I do not blame him for as it was so ridiculous and asked if I would be ok with paying a portion. My wife said sure but we had previously tried to negotiate with this manager, who was acting like a toddler, and he said he would not compromise at all.

  Take your own food, even peanut butter and jam sandwiches would be better than the "food" they are serving. At lunch my wife and I both ordered burgers. The patties were dry and void of flavor and I ended up dipping the hamburger in ketchup just to make it edible. I also found a hair in my food but didn't want to fuss over it as the service was very poor and I didn't think it would get me any sort of compensation. The fries were also way over cooked and rock hard. Dinner was worse. Knowing that they screwed a hamburger up royally, I ordered what I thought was safe, steak. Again, my wife had the same. No seasoning, whatsoever. The steak was incredibly bland and mine was cooked rare, rather than medium, which isn't a big deal because I asked that they just throw the steak back on the grill for a couple minutes. I sent mine back after 2-3 bites and stated I wanted nothing else because I didn't trust that it would be any good.

  Went at a good time of year. Views were beautiful. Lodge, motel, mini cabins, and chalets were really cute and the r.v. and camp area was not a bad size. They have lots of activities such as swimming, fishing and kayaking on the beautiful lake in the summer months. Is a bit pricey, but considering it is a self sustaining business, not bad. Could have an open cafeteria for people arriving at odd hours. Restaurant meals were tasty, but also expensive. If you read the history of their business you will see why. I stayed in the motel which had very small, but comfy rooms. Only thing was the walls are very thin, you can hear everything going on in the other rooms! Other than that I personally loved the short stay up there, and appreciated that the proprietors have their work cut out for them.

  In the end, the RCMP officer talked him into us paying for half the steak. We were also paying $200 to stay in a cabin at the lodge that offered no view and wasn't what was advertised but that did not seem to matter to even the owner of the resort who got involved but would not speak with us. We checked out at 8:45 PM and drove three hours in the dark to Fort Nelson because our experience had been so terrible and my wife no longer felt safe staying there.
